Reliance Jio reportedly offering landline services to GigaFiber users

Reliance Jio announced its fiber-based broadband service Gigafiber in July last year. The company opened registrations for the service on August 15, 2018. Since then, Reliance Jio has been testing the home broadband services across the country.

Now new report claims that the Mukesh Ambani-owned company has started offering landline services to Jio Gigafiber subscribers.

“Jio has started offering and activating landline services through its GigaFiber service, using the JioGigaHub. You get an 8-digit landline number starting with 3xxx, and you have to source your own POTS instrument," wrote a Twitter user going by the name Preshit Deorukhkar on the microblogging platform.

It is noteworthy to mention here that the company has issued no official statement about the same. The Jio Gigafiber plan is still a pilot project and is currently available to a limited number of users in selected few cities only. Reliance Jio is expected to roll out the broadband service later this year.

JioGigaFiber service will offer a combination of services including high-speed internet access, video on demand, broadcast and IPTV, music, video conferencing and e-commerce and more. The firm also plans to offer IoT services using the same pipe.

Reliance Jio may increase tariff, claim analysts

In a related news, the company is speculated to increase prices of its telecom services. According to a recent JP Morgan report, the company may be forced to increase prices to offset competition from Airtel and Vodafone-Idea. According to a recent JP Morgan report, "The likelihood of Jio raising prices is higher today than it was six to nine months ago, which has positive implications for incumbent peers, particularly, Vodafone Idea.
