From September 17, the food delivery giant will be pulling the plug of its pilot grocery
delivery service stating investment in Grofers a better option. Before the stormy
decision could takeover people’s thumbs, the 14th of September reads headlines,
GAURAV GUPTA quits.
Gaurav Gupta joined Zomato six years ago in 2015 and was later elevated to the
position of co-founder in 2019. He was also the Head of operations team and was
leading the main front of the company during the much-anticipated initial public
offering (IPO) of the food tech company. He cited his will to start a new chapter in his
life and his love for Zomato in the email he sent to his employees this morning.
In his words, “I am taking a new turn in my life and will be starting a new chapter,
taking a lot from this defining chapter of my life – the last 6 years at Zomato. We
have a great team now to take Zomato forward and it’s time for me to take an
alternate path in my journey. I am very emotional as I write this and don’t think any
words can do justice to how I am feeling right now.”
CEO Deepinder Goyal confirmed his exit on microblogging platform Twitter. His
words read as, “Thank you, GG, for everything you have helped Zomato achieve
over the last few years. We have seen Zomato through great as well as terrible times
together, and brought it here today."

He further added his wishes and bid an emotional farewell to the head of Zomato,
“There’s so much of our journey still ahead of us, and I am thankful that you are
hanging your boots at a point where we have a great team and leadership to carry us
forward, you will be sorely missed."
In his bidding email to the CEO, Gupta wrote, “Thank you Deepi for making me a
part of this journey. I will always cherish the amazing times we have had together. I
have learnt a lot from you all along and I know in my heart that you will take Zomato
to heights that most cannot even imagine.”
His resignation comes at a time when it was least expected. Zomato is one of the
Homegrown techs of India and stands as an Indian multinational restaurant
aggregator and food delivery company. Even after this unanticipated update, Zomato
seems to have a bright way forward in its own field of diversity. It would be an
awaited updated about the new head of supply. As for Gaurav, the sources state that
he is now expected to plan out his next professional endeavour, which could be his
own new journey or spending time with his family.
