Nokia going to launch 8 new device which is powered by Android Go.

HMD Global, the licensee of Nokia smartphones, has got as many as eight new devices listed on the Wi-Fi Alliance website.

Points to be noted.

  • HMD Global is working on a range of smartphones.
  • These eight smartphones have been certified on the Wi-Fi Alliance website.
  • HMD Global's eight smartphones will run Android Go software.

Nokia brand licensee HMD Global is working on a series of new phones, according to a certification website. As many as eight Nokia devices have cropped up on the Wi-Fi Alliance website along with their model numbers. While this does confirm that these devices exist, it is not clear what these devices will commercially be known as. But what we know right now from these listings on the certification website is that there will be Android Go software that will power all these devices. And this means that these are going to be entry-level and budget smartphones that will have around 1GB of RAM.

According to a report by Nokiamob.net, the eight Nokia devices bear these models numbers: TA-1306, TA-1308, TA-1309, TA-1312, TA-1314, TA-1318, TA-1320, and TA-1335. Some of these models are just variants of a single smartphone, meaning the actual smartphones are going to be fewer than eight. Since these models have been certified by the Wi-Fi Alliance, there is going to be Wi-Fi connectivity on all of them. Moreover, the listings show that all these models will feature 2.4GHz band on Wi-Fi networks, which is the basic one and is commonly found on low-cost devices. It adds to the speculation that eight Nokia devices will be affordable.

Android Go software is the trimmed-down version of Google’s Android mobile operating system, which is meant for smartphones that have less powerful resources, such as 1GB of RAM. The apps that come as a part of this software are lighter versions of their regular apps. Some of these apps include Gmail Go, YouTube Go, Google Go, and Maps Go among others. Not only is the size of these apps relatively smaller, but the apps are also designed in a way that consumes less power and puts less pressure on the phone hardware, allowing it to run efficiently.
