Why Google Maps dangerous ? Must know here ...

Google Maps is one of the most useful apps nowadays, but let us tell you that you should also be careful while using it. According to a new report, Google Maps is overfilled with millions of fake business listings. Currently, there are approximately 11 million fake business listings on the application. It is noticed that every month new listings arrive with forged contact numbers or addresses.

But how can one benefit from false listing of a business on Google Maps? As Wall Street Journal reports, people do it for variety of reasons. While some businesses create fake profiles for their competitors with false contact numbers, others impersonate established brands and cheat customers. Now the good part is, Google has responded to the claims in the WSJ report. In Google's latest blog post on such scams, Ethan Russell, Product Director of Google Maps wrote: "This year, we’ve already introduced a new way to report suspicious business profiles and have started to apply refined techniques to business categories where we’re seeing an increase in fraud attempts."Ethan also gave us the numbers for the fake business profiles which were removed last year. "We took down more than 3 million fake business profilesand more than 90 percent of those business profiles were removed before a user could even see the profile. Our internal systems were responsible for more than 85 percent of these removals. More than 250,000 of the fake business profiles we removed were reported to us by users."Giving a piece of information to our readers here, let us tell you that creating a business profile on Google is currently free. Businesses can verify their listing's address and phone number via SMS message, a phone call or a postcard mailed to their listed location. This easy process of adding your business profile on the application is surely one reason of such scams. This is why, we also read in the blog post: "We know that a small minority will continue trying to scam others, so there will always be work to do and we’re committed to keep doing better."
